A baby boy cries incessantly. Worried, his young mother tries to comfort him. She knows he is sick, but medical care is not readily available in the poor neighborhood where she lives. Even if it were, the cost is more than she can afford.
This scene is replayed repeatedly in depressed areas of Cairo, Egypt, a crowded metropolis of more than 15 million people. Babies die needlessly because of inadequate nutrition, inaccessible medical facilities, and lack of health education.
In 1998, two Assemblies of God nurses established Mother and Child HealthCare Centers of Egypt, a clinic for impoverished women and children in the heart of Cairo. The nurses treat medical problems, feed the malnourished, provide health education classes, and make home visits. Their efforts are a clear testimony of God's love in a land where Christians are a minority.
Three-year-old Yasser is just one of the children treated at the clinic. The nurses gave him medication, nutritious food, and arranged for a physical therapist to work with Yasser and his mother. At biweekly visits to the clinic, Yasser's mother learns how to care for his needs.
Will you pray for these nurses and the clinic? Ask God to bless the work and supply needed finances to continue this vital outreach.
