In a drug-induced stupor, Jon stumbled down the streets of Reykjavik, Iceland, listening to his portable radio. A long-time addict and drug dealer, he was caught in a seemingly hopeless trap.
Suddenly something on the radio caught his attention. Somehow he had tuned in to "Radio Lindin," a Christian station started by missionaries Mike and Sheila Fitzgerald.
As Jon listened, the Holy Spirit touched his heart. There on the sidewalk, he dropped to his knees and cried out to God. When he stood up, he was a changed man. His desire for drugs was completely gone.
Today Jon holds youth rallies across the country, telling teens what God has done for him. Many people have accepted Christ through his testimony.
Since the first broadcast aired in 1995, the ministry has expanded to include five transmitters across Iceland. More than 13,000 listeners have contacted Radio Lindin, requesting prayer for salvation and various needs.
An integral part of the Radio Lindin team, Sheila shares some of the ways the programs have ministered to people. One woman contacted the station with a testimony. Her teen-age son was rebellious, and she feared he was headed for serious trouble. One day the woman came across a broadcast on Radio Lindin. As she listened, she sensed God speaking to her about how to talk to her son. She was encouraged, knowing that God cared about her needs.
Sheila also reports that a teen-age girl accepted Christ through the station and later became a broadcaster for Radio Lindin. As the young woman grew in Christ, God led her to establish a missions ministry in Iceland. Today her burden for the lost is extending across Iceland and beyond.
In Icelandic, Lindin means "spring" or "fountain." Through Radio Lindin, the Living Water of God's Word is penetrating Iceland with hope and the message of salvation. While most people think of Iceland as cold and remote, God is using Sheila Fitzgerald and the Radio Lindin team to bring a breath of spring to this island nation.
