The Power of Forgiving

The need to belong is basic to human nature. Emile Durkheim, a modern sociologist, said, "Not to belong is to be lost." Small groups within the local church are more important than ever, as people today feel more alone than ever. Within the Women's Ministries setting, small groups—usually called Ministry Groups—can offer much to the local congregation.

Form Ministry Groups according to the needs and interests of women

A Women's Ministries survey of the women in your congregation will help determine those needs and interests (a sample survey can be found in A Leader's Guide to Successfully Ministering to Women, #02-0306, Gospel Publishing House).

One ministry cannot possibly meet the needs of all women

Some Ministry Groups might be organized to minister for a specific time period, such as a grief recovery class. Other groups will be ongoing, such as Bible study or prayer groups. Establish groups to offer service-oriented ministry, such as funeral dinners or nursing home Ministry Groups. Groups may even be structured around specific interests of women, such as diet and nutrition, or even a sports group, which provides fellowship—a spiritual need—for the women who join.

Select a Ministry Group leader carefully according to her abilities, with the approval of the pastor and Women's Ministries coordinator

he group leader should have a specific job description (as outlined in A Resource Guide for Successfully Ministering to Women, #02-2007, Gospel Publishing House) which includes praying for the members of her group, determining meeting schedules and locations, selecting participants for group meetings, readying supplies, and being answerable to the Women's Ministries coordinator.

The women in your congregation and community have a need to belong

As they join Women's Ministries Ministry Groups, they will become more loyal to the church. They will be ministered to and will minister to others through the group dynamic of Ministry Groups.
