Mary is a third generation church member who has faithfully served for three years in her congregation as a second grade Sunday School teacher. She and her husband are greeters. She is a natural leader with a heart for evangelism. Friends describe her as dependable, organized, friendly and approachable.

So, it seemed like the right thing to do when her Women's Ministries coordinator and senior pastor asked Mary to be the leader of a new Ministry Group to single moms. She was excited, had great ideas and was determined to do a good job. Mary didn't fully understand the structure of Women's Ministries or exactly how to begin this new venture, but she was assured that "there would be those who would lend a hand as needed."

What happens too often in a scenario like this one is that in six months or less, Mary becomes anxious, discouraged, disinterested, dissatisfied and burned out before she begins. After a short period of time, Mary resigns her position reasoning that leadership in Women's Ministries is simply not her cup of tea.
