The women in my church are asking for more Ministry Groups. Any suggestions?
Ministry Groups are a great way to involve more women in your local Women's Ministries program. They were developed as part of Women's Ministries when it became evident that planning one ministry to meet the needs and interests of all women was impossible. Here's a great idea; a ministry fair with a day spa "twist" submitted to WomensMinistry.net's e-newsletter by Karen Whiteley, ladies ministries director, Churchill Baptist, San Antonio, Texas.
"We decorated all purple and cream for a spa-like atmosphere. This was a special day for the ladies of our church. Each of the ministry groups had a station set up. Women visited each station to receive the pampering offered there. While they were being pampered, they were learning all about that ministry and how they could get involved.
"The Bible Study booth offered a Satin Hands process by Mary Kay cosmetics. Each step of the Satin Hands process had a Scripture verse. The women could sign up for new studies and buy books at that station.
"The Mentoring booth had paraffin wax tubs. While women soaked their hands or elbows they were told of upcoming coffees and places of service in the Mentoring ministry.
"The Special Events/Retreat committee booth had foot-baths. As the women soaked their feet, they were told about upcoming events, opportunities to serve and took surveys on their preferences for upcoming retreats.
"The Pregnancy Crisis Center booth offered women a chance to relax with all sorts of massaging equipment (back, foot, electric, etc.). While they relaxed, they learned more about the ministry and the types of donations they could make to support the Center.
"The Mom's Support Group booth offered women a chance to make their own scented bath salts while learning more about upcoming meetings.
"The Hospitality booth gave herbal facials while telling how new women are welcomed into our church and how they can help.
"For refreshments we had a lovely food table with white grape juice and ginger ale, fruits, chocolates, cheese and crackers. We held the Ministry Fair on a Saturday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Overall, it was a huge success and no one wanted to leave. We average 350 in church on Sundays. If your church is larger, you might need more time to accommodate more women. Everyone who attended said it was a wonderful relaxing time, but also felt they had learned more about the various Ministry Groups and how they could be a part."
