The Look

A Ministry of God's Peace

Some leaders may be surprised to realize God never intended ministry to be overwhelming. In fact, not once did God say, "Follow Me and I will pile it on, heap it up, and wear you out." No, we do that all by ourselves. In trying to do good, we can get ahead of God and generate needless stress and chaos. Instead of seeking His guidance, we assume we know what He wants.

Leaders see areas of great need day in and day out. And if they're not careful they may be trapped into trying to be all things to all people all the time. We may try to do too much with too little and too few. It's only normal—leaders typically are talented and capable individuals. We lack enough time, enough help, and enough energy. Instead of holiday peace, we may become grumpy and discouraged. No wonder the holiday season becomes a blur!

This year, do something different.

Start the season with prayer and fasting. Wait upon the LordÕs direction for your time, talent, and energy.

Then, look around. Just one unencumbered look will reveal the area of greatest need.

The good news is God hasn't changed, nor has His expectation for us! Paul tells us if we will stop worrying and pray instead, we "will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will keep your thoughts and your hearts quiet and at rest as you trust in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6,7, The Living Bible).

"If you need wisdom—if you want to know what God wants you to doÑask him, and he will gladly tell you" (James 1:5, New Living Translation).

Don't let circumstances, public pressure, or selfish ambition set the agenda for this holiday season. Instead, seek God and His direction as to what you and your women's group should do.

Allow God to reveal a particular need, then seek His guidance for addressing it. The results will amaze you, and you won't be tempted to "handle"things on your own.

This year, begin by humbling yourself before God. Then work in cooperation with His Spirit. Your faith will be energized as you allow God's presence to permeate the season.
