A man (woman) reaps what he (she) sows" (Galatians 6:7).
Last fall I read this Scripture, and knew it was for my Women's Ministries group, but I didn't know exactly how to apply it. As I meditated on it, the words echoed in my heart.
Around Thanksgiving, when I knew for sure that I should resign as Women's Ministries coordinator, I again thought of Galatians 6:7. I feel the Lord gave me this message for our Women's Ministries group. God wanted the group to sow seeds of:
Sow the seeds of consistent daily prayer for your new Women's Ministries coordinator and her family. What happens in and to her family will affect her leadership. Consistent daily prayers will help her the most.
Sow the seeds of attendance at the regular meetings. Your new leader can't influence your life if you are not there.
Sow seeds of support. The new coordinator will have a new vision and new projects for the Women's Ministries group. Support her in the things she feels directed by God to do. Don't say, "We tried that, it didn't work;" instead say, "We tried it this way and this is what happened." Always remember there is more than one way of doing the same thing.
Sow seeds of patience with your new leader. Realize that everything takes time, and can't all be accomplished instantly. Be patient when mistakes are made. Remember, all of us make mistakes.
Sow seeds of forgiveness when you have been unknowingly and unintentionally hurt. Don't hold grudges or harbor ill feelings about things that have happened in the meetings or during activities. Your leader may not realize you have been hurt. If you have been, first pray, then go to her and discuss your feelings.
Finally, sow seeds of freedom for your new leader. Freedom to do things her way; freedom to use the trial-and-error method; freedom to fulfill the vision the Lord has given her; freedom to make changes; freedom to do new things in new ways. That's why the Lord changes leadership. He wants to do new and different things in and through your Women's Ministries group. Allow the new leader freedom to grow in her new work for the Lord.
If you sow these seeds, when your turn comes to be in a place of leadership these are the things you will also reap. "Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously" (2 Corinthians 9:6).
