Beth Moore
(Thomas Nelson Publishers, 2006)
Have you ever been in a pit, or is someone you love in a pit? Many Christian women are struggling to survive their own resentment, failure, anger, depression, and other emotional mire. We may ignore these issues for years, but they hold us back from a truly vibrant life in Christ. Get Out of That Pit, by Beth Moore,is an excellent resource for those times when life’s overwhelming circumstances leave us longing for wholeness in Christ.
As a survivor of horrendous abuse and heartache, Beth knows firsthand what it means to Get Out of That Pit. Beth offers lessons about the deliverance found when women give themselves completely to Jesus Christ, the Redeemer. The reader will appreciate her honest, witty, and straightforward style. This is one of those pep talks that women need to hear–an excellent work!
The book includes Scripture Prayers and a Discovery Guide containing “Reflection Questions.” The Discovery Guide also has a “Personal Application” section that will help you apply the material from each chapter to your own life.
Get Out of That Pit is great for a small group and ideal for a book club. The club could read a chapter every one to two weeks. They could meet once or twice a month and discuss the “Reflection Questions” and “Personal Application” found in the Discovery Guide. Chapter Titles:
“What Happens When We Invite God’s Power Into Our Pain”
“From her first breath of fresh air beyond the pit, it has never been enough for Beth Moore to be free. This author and teacher who’s opened the riches of Scripture to millions has longed for you to be free as well. To know the Love and Presence that are better than life—and the power of God’s Word that defies all darkness.
“Her journey out of the pit has been heart-rendering. But from this and the poetic expressions of Psalm 40 has come the reward: a new song for her soul—given by her Savior and offered to you here, friend to friend. It is Beth’s most stirring message yet of the sheer hope, utter deliverance… and complete and glorious freedom of God:
“I waited patiently for the Lord
He turned to me and heard my cry
He lifted me out of the slimy pit
He set my feet on a rock
He put a new song in my mouth.
“It is a story, a song—a salvation—that you can know too.”
